It is remarkable to think that the Parish we celebrate in this booklet goes all the way back to 1410, with the first Mass celebrated in 1425 – still over 100 years prior to the beginning of the English Reformation.
Therefore, this significant rich history of catholic life in Liverpool involves many people, from the Molyneux family and their many sacrifices for their catholic faith, to the large number of priests ad people that have served the Parish, right through to the parishioners who maintain their dedicated worship and practice of their faith to this day.
In July of this year, the Parish of St Swithin’s celebrated its 600th anniversary – an incredible achievement. Typically, with the legend that surrounds St Swithin, it rained on that day, meaning that the original outdoor Mass that was scheduled, took place within the church of Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs in Croxteth. Since 2004, with the merging of the two parishes, this has been the home of this important piece of history of the local area and the wider Catholic Church in England.
